Sylvia Amelie de Lafayette was born on November 14th, 1901, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Louis de Lafayette and Amelie de Lafayette. Sylvia's mother passed away shortly after childbirth, leaving Louis alone with their only daughter. For the entirety of Sylvia's childhood, she was blamed for her mother's death. Her father always told her if she was never born, her mother would still be alive.When she was old enough to begin her schooling, she was sent away to live with her paternal aunt, Celine. Celine was almost as bad as Louis had been to Sylvia. Celine only wanted her brother to be happy, and knowing Sylvia was the reason for his demise made matters much, much worse.Finally, Sylvia had enough of the torture and abuse. On February 10th, 1920, she took a match from the den and set the family home ablaze, her father and aunt still inside. She hadn't thought everything out, for she had not been given enough time to escape for herself. She had fallen to the floor, eyes growing heavy, and her lungs filled with ash and smoke. When she regained her consciousness, she was different. Standing at the foot of her bed was a pale man with platinum blonde hair. He claimed his name was Caius, and she was safe from all that came before.volterra, 1920-2006
especially as a newborn, sylvia is kept hidden from the human world and trained by caius and renata of the volturi coven. from the time she is saved from the house fire in new orleans, the only world she knows is tucked away in volterra, italy.it is quickly revealed that sylvia's vampyre gift is an empathic shield. this gift comes from her sire line and her immediate bond with renata. in vampire lore, vampires inherit similar skills from those in their sire line. for sylvia, she was sired by caius who was sired by marcus. caius is known for being manipulative, while marcus is gifted with relationship identification. renata, on the other hand, is gifted with an aversion field. it was no surprise that sylvia developed skills from all three of her vampyre guardians.New Moon, 2006
